Dr. Cannon has designed several orthodontic bracket systems for major orthodontic companies. As the results of his many unique orthodontic ideas he has been granted eleven patents from the United States Patent Office.
He has been recognized by the Georgia Governor’s Office for his developments in orthodontic bracket design. His latest bracket design has been recently granted a U.S. patent. Its design makes it possible to treat a wider range of skeletal discrepancy cases (anterior/posterior mismatch of the jaws), thereby reducing the necessity for surgery in many cases.
He has lectured extensively on his concepts of orthodontic treatment in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Australia and throughout Europe. He has authored a text book on his approach to orthodontic treatment. The “Cannon Ultra System” to orthodontic treatment is being taught at several of the major orthodontic programs in Europe. Formerly he was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthodontics at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where he taught two days each month.
He continues on the staff today as a guest lecturer. He points out that the more standard approach to orthodontic treatment requires an average of 24 to 30 months, whereas with the “Cannon Approach” to treatment the average time is reduced to 18 to 24 months.
